Matthew is a senior architect with MMA. In his 20 years of experience, he has crafted his approach to design by listening carefully and creating a dialogue between space, material, craft, and context.

He believes that design must address the practical – sometimes simply, but it must also enliven and inspire, embracing complexity when appropriate.

Matthew earned both his Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering and later his Masters in Architecture, from the University of Michigan.

His experience encompasses commercial, higher education and K-12 projects along with a wide range of residential work. Previously, Matthew taught and researched at the University of Michigan’s Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, where he focused on the richness of materials and craft from bygone eras through a modern lens. His love of architecture has taken him from California to Austria and continues to influence his design and approach to the architectural practice.

When not working, Matthew can be found cycling with his family, or knee deep in northern Michigan rivers, immersed in the beauty of water and landscape.
