The project began with a simple but powerful idea to create a year-round home that honors the memories of the modest cottage that once stood here while embracing the rhythm of daily life, gatherings, and future family traditions.
The design takes cues from the character of the lake community where homes are close-knit, connected by the water, and shaped by the landscape. Replacing the original cottage, the new structure reorients life toward the lake with a series of tiered outdoor spaces and open interior rooms that capture long southern views over the water. The interstitial space between the new home and the neighboring family residence was carefully designed to negotiate the differing patios and grade through new outdoor gathering zones, steps and seating that blend together seamlessly.
A detached garage, located just north across the road, complements the compact lakefront site. Designed with the same attention to detail and material character as the main house, it provides essential storage for vehicles, lake equipment, and utilities while maintaining a cohesive architectural language between both structures.
Inside, the plan balances private retreat and connection. The upper level functions as a quiet sanctuary for the owners, while the main floor encourages daily movement between the kitchen, living room, and deck. The lower level extends outward to the lakefront, designed for hosting family and friends with guest suites and a flexible living area that extends indoor living space to the outdoors.
Architecturally, Brower North draws on natural materials, simple forms, and a light, open quality that reflects the calm of its surroundings. Every detail was considered to maximize function on a compact site, from careful window placement that floods the interior with daylight to durable finishes chosen for low maintenance and longevity. High-performance systems and an efficient building envelope ensure the home will stand comfortably through every season.
Now under construction, Brower North represents a thoughtful evolution of lakefront living that is both modern and familiar while being connected to family and landscape in equal measure.
