The city of Walker broke ground on its new library Wednesday. The new library and community center, which is set to be 20,000 square feet, will be physically connected to the old 8,000-square-foot library by a covered walkway.
The new library will have more space for programming and is meant to be a gathering space and a hub for access to technology.
The new build will be the city’s fourth library in the last 52 years, according to Mayor Gary Carey.
Construction is expected to be completed by the fall of 2026.
